Monday, August 23rd, 2010

We have just under a month left of Summer, and already signs of Fall are starting to show up around the area.  During a trip along Rt. 5 (West Lake Rd) in West Erie County, I came across some leaves already starting to change their colors.

If you have any signs of Fall that you would [...]

SUMMER COMPARISON

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Bob Dylan once sang, “You don’t need a weather man to tell you which way the wind blows”, and now I am going to add to that, you don’t need a meteorologist to tell you this summer has come with a lot more heat that last year!  His lyrics work out better, though.

Just the difference [...]

HEAT WAVE

A heat wave is defined by the National Weather Service as a period of abnormally and uncomfortably hot and unusually humid weather.  Typically a heat wave lasts two or more days.
That definition is what describes our forecast for the next few days.  It will be hot and steamy, so here are some tips to help get [...]

THE FARMER’S ALMANAC SAYS A COLD WINTER IS ON THE WAY

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Usually the Storm Team gets an advanced copy of the Almanac.  This year our weather center has yet to be graced by the book.  That is beside the point.
The Winter prediction by the Farmer’s is, however, making headlines for it’s predictions of “Numbing cold” on the way to a good chunk of the country this [...]

APRIL: A LOOK AHEAD

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

April, the first full month of Spring, is a wonderful month.  This is where we start to put anything associated with Winter behind us, and look forward to the warming temperatures.
The average temperature at the start of April is 51 degrees, while the end of the month boasts an average of 61!  The warmest temperature [...]

“MARCH”ING TOWARD SPRING

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

March is one of those great transition months where we really start to see Spring spread across the region.  We can really see that when we look at the climatology of March in Erie.
The beginning of the month starts off whith an average temperature of 40 degrees, but the average jumps to 50 by the [...]

DON’T COMPLAIN ABOUT THE COLD

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

It can always be worse!  After our recent cold snap (or as some called it a “cold-OH-SNIPPITY-Snap”), Margaret Keller of Albion sent us a picture from 1994.
The thermometer reads about -25 degrees.  The coldest temperature ever recorded in nearby Erie (the official National Weather Service Station) was recorded that same day at -18.

WSEE Storm Team [...]
